Stock or mutual funds that have been held longer than one year and have appreciated in value may be donated to WETA to benefit the PBS NewsHour and may provide you with tax savings. When you give appreciated stock or securities, you avoid paying capital-gains tax on the increased value of your asset. You may also be entitled to a charitable tax deduction for the full fair market value of your stock. When considering gifts of stock, we recommend you consult with your financial adviser.
PBS NewsHour is produced by NewsHour Productions, LLC a wholly-owned non-profit subsidiary of WETA. When providing instructions to your broker, please be sure to have the stock transfer clearly designate the donation to the Greater Washington Educational Telecommunications Association, Inc. (WETA). Our Federal Tax Identification Number is 53-0242992.
Your broker will need the following information to complete the transfer/donation:
Please notify WETA of your pending stock donation to benefit the PBS NewsHour so that we can appropriately credit your gift to the NewsHour. Call Debbie Eliason at (703) 998-1834 or send an email to deliason@weta.org with the name and estimated shares of stock you are giving to PBS NewsHour so that we may thank you in a timely manner when the gift is received.
For wire transfers, WETA maintains a business checking account with Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Prior to wire transfer please contact Debbie Eliason, deliason@weta.org or (703) 998-1834 so that we can appropriately credit your gift to the NewsHour.
Should you wish to include PBS NewsHour in your Will or Trust, the following language may assist you and your attorney in preparing your bequest:
“I give (insert dollar amount or percentage of estate) to the Greater Washington Educational Telecommunications Association, Inc. (WETA), located at 3939 Campbell Avenue, Arlington, VA 22206, to be designated to PBS NewsHour. If, at the time of this gift, due to a change in circumstances, PBS NewsHour is no longer in production by WETA, the WETA Board of Trustees may designate such other use, which, in their opinion, most closely fits my original intent.”
